Dear Irvington Public Schools Community:

There has been an increase in challenges on social media, which promote violence against public institutions such as schools. We are aware of the most recent challenge promoting violence in schools nationwide on Friday, December 17. We take any potential threat against our district with the utmost seriousness, but there is no indication that there is any specific threat to Irvington Public Schools.

Our school security will remain alert to any suspicious activity, and we will continue to be in close contact with the Irvington Police Department regarding any threatening behavior.

We ask that you provide guidance to your children on the appropriate use of social media, encourage them to seek a trusted adult to speak with about any suspicious activity they see.

The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. Working with the police department, we will remain vigilant tomorrow and every day in which you entrust your children with us.

Thank you,

Dr. April Vauss
Superintendent of Schools
