Mr. Guijarro’s afterschool enrichment program celebrates a year of learning
During the past school year, in the after school enrichment program not only have we helped students complete their assignments or tutor them on subjects that they had difficulty in, but we have also exposed them to cultural activities. For example on November 1, we showed in film different celebrations around Latin America. I brought a special drink that is non- alcoholic from Ecuador called (colada morada). I shared a sample with the students and staff. Also, students got to create their own day of the dead masks.
For Thanksgiving and Christmas we brought in cookies and treats for those in attendance along with discussions about how Christmas was celebrated here in comparison to their home country.
Finally, for the end of the year the staff got together to provide a pizza party as the program came to an end. We used that day to promote the program with a lot of new students in attendance.
I hope this brief explanation has helped you get a peek into what went on this past year.
