School Closings

In the event that inclement weather or other emergencies necessitate the closing of schools or delaying the opening of schools every effort will be made to post an announcement on this website by 6:30 a.m. as well as an automated telephone message sent to parents, (please confirm with the secretary of your child’s school your correct home telephone number).

School closing information will also be available on the local television stations listed below:

Delayed Openings

A delayed opening will be announced by the Superintendent through the School Messenger System. In addition, when possible, the delayed opening announcement will be posted on Channel 36 and the District’s Website.

Delayed Opening Calls

  1. Superintendent will call the Irvington Township Safety Director who will alert Crossing Guards.
  2. Assistant Superintendent for Business/Board Secretary will call Whitsons (food service vendor)
  3. Associate Business Administrator will call the Sussex County Commission.
  4. Parents will call transportation carriers to receive information regarding pick-up times. Parents who are unable to reach the transportation carriers should call the Essex Regional Educational Services Commission at 973-405-6262

Additional Information

  1. Students should not arrive prior to 10:00 a.m. Due to weather conditions, which caused the delayed opening, there will be limited supervision available for students.
  2. Students must be ready to board the school bus at the exact time indicated by the transportation carrier.
  3. All before school programs will be cancelled.
  4. Please do not call the Fire Department or Police Department for delayed opening information.
  5. A School Messenger call will be activated to announce the delayed opening.
