Principal’s Welcome Message – APA 2019-2020

Welcome to Augusta Preschool Academy. We are delighted to welcome you to the 2019–2020 school year! We believe in the school community working together to ensure the academic and social success of all students. The entire school community’s goal is to support our young learners in becoming socially, emotionally, physically, and academically successful.

We offer a full preschool program, dedicated to 3 and 4 year-old children. The school provides a rich, comprehensive, and nurturing environment for our students to learn, grow, and succeed. Here at Augusta, we are proud of our dedicated teachers and support staff. Our teaching staff is certified in early childhood education or early childhood special education. We are an inclusive school, offering services that accommodate the individual needs of all learners. Within our program we offer general education, bilingual education focusing on Spanish and French-Creole, inclusion education, and special education with a major concentration in Autism.
Augusta’s mission is to improve the academic achievement of our learners through a combination of critical thinking and life skills. Our goal is to lay the groundwork for a solid educational foundation by developing the child physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

We implement the Creative Curriculum which is a research-based curriculum, as well as, the My Math program. We recently incorporated the Imagine Learning software program in to our daily schedule to support our English Language Learners. Because of its overwhelming success, we will be rolling it out to all of our students for the 2019-20 school year. Imagine Learning is an individualized learning experience that supports the language development of our young learners. It provides native language support on an individualized learning path which adjusts according to the student’s needs. The curriculum offers children-initiated and teacher-directed activities to ensure Kindergarten readiness and overall academic success.

Class sizes are small with no more than 15 students in each classroom. Highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals are located in every classroom. We model social concepts such as “please” and “thank you.” We coach children in developing strong relationships with other students and adults. Play-based interest areas of math, science, dramatic play, music, creative arts, and computers provide opportunities to balance and stimulate both shared and independent learning experiences. Our classrooms are outfitted with desktop computers, Chromebooks, and smartboards to enhance learning. The school provides a clean and secure facility that places a high priority on the health and safety of students and staff.

Augusta Preschool Academy is dedicated to encouraging parent involvement through various parent-child activities, classroom volunteers, and PTA membership. We believe we are creating an environment whereby teachers and parents work together for the betterment of children’s performance. Parents can join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the School Leadership Council (SLC) and the Early Childhood Advisory Committee. Parent workshops are held monthly offering a variety of topics on issues such as discipline strategies, parental nurturing, language development, learning styles of children, nutrition and health practices, and child abuse prevention. There are also some exciting activities that parents can participate in to help support their child in becoming well-rounded. Parents are expected to read to their child each night and return a completed Reading Log at the end of the week. A Lending Library is available to students in each classroom. In addition, parents may attend our many school assembly programs, back to School Night, and Parent-Teacher Conferences, chaperone a field trip or participate in Celebrity Read, Read Across America, and The Week of the Young Child activities. We are committed to building an ever-stronger village that will support the needs of each learner and challenge each student to learn and grow at his/her own optimal rate.

We are looking forward to a spectacular school year! From our family to yours, thank you for choosing Augusta Preschool Academy.
